Why the DS980 Survives at 100 °C — and Standard Strips Don't

Ordinary LED strips begin to fail at 60°C — PVC coatings soften, adhesive releases, and PCBs warp. The DS980 is built differently, with four key engineering upgrades:

• OSRAM SMD3030 chips (Tj max 150°C) — German-engineered premium LED chips rated for a maximum junction temperature of 150°C. They deliver stable, consistent lumen output throughout prolonged heat exposure. Rated lifespan: 50,000+ hours.
• 3 oz copper PCB — twice the copper thickness of a standard strip (typically 1.5 oz). The extra copper mass conducts heat away from the chips significantly faster, preventing thermal buildup and protecting LED longevity. This is the most critical thermal management feature in the DS980.
• Polyimide (Kapton) substrate — the PCB base material maintains structural integrity above 130°C. Standard FR4 boards begin to warp and delaminate around 80°C — a common cause of premature LED strip failure in saunas.
• 100% pure silicone IP65 coating — not PVC. Silicone is stable from -40°C to +200°C, resists yellowing, cracking, and does not off-gas toxic fumes at elevated temperatures. Protects against sauna steam and condensation.
• CE and UL certified — tested and compliant with European and North American safety standards.

2700K Warm White — The Right Light for Sauna

The 2700K colour temperature produces warm, amber-toned light — close to candlelight or a traditional incandescent bulb. It doesn't interfere with relaxation, it deepens it. Combined with CRI Ra > 80, the natural tones of cedar, spruce, or alder wood look warm, rich, and authentic.
